Workshop Policy
Welcome to Gurasu House. To ensure a safe, educational, and inspiring environment for all participants, we kindly ask that you review and adhere to our studio policies. By booking a session, you agree to the following terms.
1. Product of Workshop
- For details of each workshop, please refer to the workshop page.
- All items will be kept for up to 2 weeks from the workshop date. Please ensure collection within this period.
- Please note that workshop creations handcrafted by beginners may not be perfect. Minor imperfections, such as small cracks in the petals, are normal due to the nature of lampworking. If you are uncomfortable with this, we recommend purchasing a piece from our shop.
- The Eden of Glass collection is strictly for sale and not available as a workshop.
2. Cancellation & Rescheduling
-
As our sessions are high-demand and involve prep-work for materials, all workshop bookings are non-refundable.
-
Rescheduling requests must be made at least one week (7 days) before your scheduled session.
-
We are unable to accept any rescheduling requests made within 7 days of the event.
-
Each booking is eligible for one (1) reschedule only, and the new date must fall within two (2) months of the original booking.
-
Please reach out to Pelago Support to assist you with the rescheduling.
-
We are unable to accept any rescheduling requests made within 7 days of the event.
-
If you are within the one-week window and can no longer attend, your slot is fully transferable. You may send someone else in your place; they simply need to present the original booking confirmation upon arrival.
-
Failure to attend a booked session without prior notice will result in the total forfeiture of the workshop fee or voucher.
- Gurasu House reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or postpone any workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to safety concerns, equipment issues, low sign-ups, or personal emergencies. In such cases, affected participants will be notified as early as possible and offered either an alternative date or a full refund.
- Each session requires a minimum of 6 participants to run. If this minimum is not met, the session may be cancelled and affected participants will be rescheduled into the next available session.
3. Conduct and Behaviour
- For the safety of all participants and staff, we reserve the right to immediately suspend or terminate your session if we reasonably determine that your behaviour poses a hazard to yourself, others, or the organiser’s staff. This includes but is not limited to unsafe handling of equipment, refusal to follow safety instructions, or disruptive conduct. No refunds will be issued in such cases.
- The venue is under CCTV surveillance for safety and dispute. Recordings will only be retrieved in cases required to resolve any dispute or to fulfill any legal obligations. No refunds will be issued in the above cases.
- Participants are to arrive at least 15 minutes before the workshop begins to complete the waiver process.
- Participants who are late will be politely refused entry to the workshop. This is due to safety concerns, and instructors will not be able to attend to late-comers. Your slot will be forfeited, and no refunds or rescheduling will be provided. Please arrive early to make the most of your session!
4. General Safety Guidelines
- Participants are required to wear the provided lampworking safety glasses and apron at all times during the workshop. As the safety glasses are worn like regular spectacles, participants who normally wear glasses are advised to use contact lenses for better comfort and visibility.
- Long hair must be tied back, and long fringes should be clipped up to minimise fire hazards.
- Follow all instructions from the workshop instructor at all times.
- Handle glass rods and hot tools with care to avoid burns or cuts. Tools that come into contact with molten glass can reach temperatures of 400–700°C, which can cause third-degree burns.
- Be cautious around the torch and flames, as they can reach temperatures above 1000°C. Never place flammable materials near the torch or open flame
5. Health and Safety
- If you have any medical conditions or concerns, please consult your physician before attending. Gurasu House is not responsible for any adverse reactions related to exposure to heat or butane gas. Participation is at your own discretion.
- Our studio does not use fans or air conditioning, as open windows are necessary for ventilation, and airflow can affect the flame. We recommend wearing light, breathable clothing to stay comfortable and prevent heat exhaustion. Staying hydrated and taking short breaks if needed is also encouraged
6. Liability
- By participating in this workshop, you acknowledge that working with glass and high temperatures carries inherent risks, including burns, cuts, and other injuries. You agree to assume full responsibility for your safety and actions during the workshop.
- Gurasu House is not liable for injuries caused by participants’ failure to adhere to safety guidelines or their own negligence. This exclusion does not apply to injuries or damages caused by the negligence of Gurasu House or its staff.
- Gurasu House will take reasonable steps to provide a safe environment, including maintaining equipment and providing adequate training and supervision.
- All participants must sign a waiver form before the workshop begins. Participants who decline to sign will not be allowed to join the workshop, and no refunds will be provided.
- Participants must be at least 16 years old. Those under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the studio to sign the waiver. Participants who decline to sign will not be allowed to join the workshop, and no refunds will be provided.
7. Lost or Damaged Property
- Participants are responsible for any damage to workshop equipment caused by improper use. Charges may apply for repair or replacement.
- Gurasu House is not responsible for loss or damage to participants’ personal belongings during the workshop
8. Environmental Policy (Bring Your Own Bag)
- To help reduce environmental waste, we kindly ask that every participant bring their own bag when collecting their finished piece.
- All finished pieces will be securely packaged in a rectangular box with cotton for safe transport. If a bag is requested, a mandatory top-up fee of $1 will apply.
Agreement of Terms
By proceeding with your booking, you acknowledge that lampworking involves inherent risks and all the above. You agree to follow all instructor directions and hold Gurasu House harmless for any injuries resulting from a failure to follow safety protocols.
